REDBROOK GOLF SOCIETY
The Wyeder Cup
In 2008, Redbrook Golf Society held the inaugural Wyeder Cup as a matchplay competition between the regulars of the two inns, either side of the River Wye, The Bell Inn in Redbrook and The Boat Inn, Penallt.
The Bell Inn took the honours that year and the competition was not played for a number of years after.

In 2015, teams from England and Wales competed for the trophy again. The competition took place in Le Touquet, France with England winning the Cup. The competition adopted a Ryder Cup style format with five days of Pairs Matchplay (4 ball better ball, foursomes and greensomes).
The following year, the national teams returned to France, to the Normandy Golf & Country Club in Belleme, where England retained the Cup following a tie after five days.
The event reverted to home soil in 2017. This time it was competed for over 4 days in June with two events in Wales (at Raglan Parc & Monmouth) and two in England (Royal Forest of Dean & Forest Hills). The first day saw the teams competing in four ball pairs, followed by Greensomes on Day Two and Foursmomes on Day Three. The final Sunday of the event saw the entire teams playing Singles for the first time. England ran out comprehensive winners and the Cup stayed on the English side of the river.
The format remained the same the following year with matches split between courses in Wales and England. The original two inns (The Bell and The Boat) became shirt sponsors for their respective countries and Wernddu Golf Course hosted the Cup for the first time, along with Raglan Parc & the same two English venues - but the result was another English victory.
In 2019, 42 players took part in the event which was hosted by England and played at Forest Hills GC and Royal Forest of Dean (Bells) Golf Club. England maintained their supremacy over their Welsh neighbours meaning that the Cup is yet to visit the Prinicipality.
But in 2020 the Forest of Dean (Bells) Golf Club hosted all three days of the competition in a Covid-19 affected format and atrocious weather. In spite of these challenges, 56 players took part and Wales finally got their name on the Cup.
